It has been a great joy for our new archbishop to begin his ministry here in the Archdiocese of New Orleans, and he has expressed deep gratitude for the faith, devotion, and love for Christ that is so present among our people. In that same spirit of hope, he is inviting all of us to take part in a special moment in the life of our local Church: the consecration of the Archdiocese to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, which will take place on Sunday, June 14 at the 11:00 am Mass at St. Louis Cathedral. This act renews a longstanding tradition dating back to 1874, when the Archdiocese was first entrusted to the Sacred Heart, placing our families and communities under the loving care of Christ.
In the weeks leading up to this moment, beginning on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 12, parishes across the Archdiocese are joining in prayer and preparation. A special Holy Hour will be held in every parish on Thursday, June 4 from 6:00–7:00 pm, uniting us in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament as we ask for renewal and hope. This is a meaningful opportunity for each of us to turn again to the Lord, both in our parish and at home, asking for His grace and guidance.
As part of this consecration, every household is invited to enthrone an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in their home on the same weekend. Blessed images will be distributed at Masses on June 13–14, and families are encouraged to prepare a place of honor and spend time in prayer leading up to this moment. This simple act is a powerful reminder that Christ desires to dwell with us, to lead our families, and to fill our homes with His peace.
Through this consecration, we are invited into a deeper renewal of faith, family life, and mission. The Heart of Jesus burns with love for each of us, and He calls us to draw closer to Him with trust and confidence. Let us enter into this time together with open hearts, placing ourselves and our parish under His care, and allowing His love to guide us forward.
