A Statement from Mary, Queen of Peace Catholic Church
Men Matter Here!
Mary, Queen of Peace Parish is happy to announce that parishioner Ty Talamo is the newly appointed Director of Men’s Ministry, taking over for John Tomba, who served faithfully but is stepping back from leadership to focus on family and work priorities.
The Director is the leader for ministries and programs designed especially for men at Mary, Queen of Peace. Ty will provide leadership, vision, and strategic planning for a core team that will work together to support the men of our parish family. Together, they will ensure that men come away from gatherings, events, and programs better equipped to serve the church, their families, and each other.
Fr. Cooper notes: “Ty is a man of integrity and deep faith. He possesses a collaborative nature and creative instinct that will serve the men of our parish by fostering true Christian masculinity and authentic fatherhood, in turn strengthening marriages, families, and our parish community. Ty is a devoted husband, father, and disciple of Christ. He is passionate about serving the men of Mary, Queen of Peace and sharing his unique gifts and talents to help foster life-changing encounters with Jesus. We welcome him as part of our ministry team as the new Director of Men’s Ministry.
Ty was born in New Orleans, attended Jesuit High School and graduated from the University of Alabama. He has been married to his wife, Brandi, for 25 years. They have three children – Sophia, Andrew, and Stella – who all attended and graduated from Mary Queen of Peace School. Ty has been involved in many ministries at MQP, including the first Welcome Team, TMIY and Anchored in Hope. He most recently has been a member of the Marriage Team and the Men’s Ministry Core Team. Ty is a daily Mass attendee. He works in the insurance industry, enjoys family, friends, and playing a little golf, as well as spending time with his rescue dogs Allie, Lexie, and Betty.
“I am so excited to work with Fr. Cooper and the many men in the parish. My goal is to build on our men’s ministry, bringing each man closer to God. My hope is that we can become better men, husbands and fathers. I ask you to pray for me and my family as we begin this journey together.”
According to Fr. Cooper, “Men follow transformational leaders. They like to know that their leaders are certain of where they are going and are listening along the way. If a man does not believe in the leaders, he cannot follow the vision. When we hold up a leader as the standard for a mature Christian, we have to think: Do they look boring, tired and half dead? Or do they look vibrant, excited, and well-spoken (regardless of age)? Men should be able to look at the leaders at Mary, Queen of Peace and say, ‘I want to be like that.’”
THE BIG IDEA: We have an unwritten “man code” that defines what it means to be a Christan man at Mary, Queen of Peace. We must create an environment that says: “Men matter here!”
