Welcome Home Sunday

Just about every Catholic sitting in our pews knows someone who has drifted away from the Church, a family member, a friend, a neighbor, or a coworker. That's why Archbishop Checchio has invited every parish in the Archdiocese of New Orleans to celebrate Welcome Home Sunday on August 16.

His invitation is simple: Pray for one person and personally invite them to come home. While people leave the Church for many different reasons, one of the most common reasons they return is because someone cared enough to invite them.

As parishioners of Mary, Queen of Peace, we have the privilege of being that invitation. We are called to create a parish where every person who walks through our doors experiences the love of Christ through our welcome. A smile, a warm greeting, an invitation to sit with you, or introducing yourself after Mass may seem like small gestures, but they can make a lasting impact.

Our recent consecration to the Sacred Heart of Jesus calls us to become a parish known for prayer, mercy, welcome, and mission. As recipients of Christ's love, we are now sent to share that love with others. Together, let's help create a place where those who have been away feel welcomed, loved, and invited to encounter Jesus once again.

Please begin praying now for one person the Lord is placing on your heart, and then have the courage to extend a simple invitation. You never know how God may use your invitation to change a life.
