PRAYER 

• The most perfect way to live out the calling to prayer is by participant in the sacred liturgy. Through the Mass, we come together in worship and enter fully into the Paschal Mystery. Consider attending one extra Mass a week together as a family, such as the 5:30 PM Mass on Friday.
• Stations of the Cross is a powerful prayer for adults and children alike because it prayerfully walks individuals and families through Jesus' passion, suffering and death. Praying the Stations helps us intentionally reflect on God's unconditional love and His tremendous sacrifice for us. There are many wonderful kid-friendly resources available, including those from The Little Rose Shop and Holy Heroes. Kendra Tierney from Catholic All Year offers some beautiful ideas in her episode Stations of the Cross on Formed.org.
• The Rosary - Our Lady consistently asks the faithful to pray the Rosary daily. Although it can feel daunting to sit down and pray together as a family, this prayer is incredibly powerful! It strengthens family bonds by bringing the family together for intentional prayer and invites us to reflect upon Jesus' birth, ministry, death and glorious resurrection. The Family Rosary has some excellent Lenten resources through a special subscription, and Catholic Sprouts also provides wonderful insights and tools to help families grow in this devotion.

FASTING

• While we each make individual sacrifices, there is special power when families fast together. Consider fasting from technology or recreational media as a family. Alternatively, you might limit screen time to Catholic content available through a platform such as FORMED (see below for instructions on how to create a free account). 

• A Sacrifice Crown of Thorns  is another beautiful way for families to unite their sacrifices this Lent. Families create a simple “crown of thorns” and place it in a central location in the home. Each time someone makes a sacrifice for Jesus, a thorn is removed—symbolically helping to relieve His suffering.

ALMSGIVING

• Participate in The Magic Yarn Project and other service opportunities made available at our Mary, Queen of Peace Fish Fry events.
• Create a Blessing Bag - fill a gallon-sized Ziploc bag with essentials such as bottled water, toothbrush, toothpaste, socks, tuna packets, first-aid supplies, beef jerky, and other non-perishable foods. Add prayer cards, handwritten notes, or Scripture verses and store in your family car to give to someone in need.
• Donate gently used clothing and toys to a local shelter.
• Participate in the Rice Bowl Project
